Meta has announced the public API preview for Muse Spark 1.1, making its advanced AI model accessible to US developers.

This move follows Meta's re-entry into the artificial intelligence landscape with its inaugural in-house Muse Spark model in April. The company is now empowering developers by providing access to a refined model designed to integrate seamlessly with AI coding software via the new Meta Model API.

Meta describes Muse Spark 1.1 as a "step-change" improvement over its predecessor, incorporating significant enhancements derived from developer feedback. The model boasts capabilities for more sophisticated coding tasks, such as identifying and resolving intricate bugs. Furthermore, it offers superior support for end-to-end agentic workflows across diverse applications, including multi-agent systems, and features native multimodal perception for images, videos, and documents.

The introduction of Muse Spark 1.1 comes shortly after the launch of Muse Image this week, an image generation model that has garnered controversy due to its capacity to integrate other users' Instagram content into its outputs. These ongoing releases underscore Meta's strategic imperative to validate the substantial billions invested in accelerating its position within the AI competition, aiming to achieve technological parity with industry leaders such as OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, particularly following a series of prominent hires and a company-wide restructuring implemented last year.

Developers can access the new 1.1 model immediately in "Thinking mode" via the Meta AI app and the Meta AI website. Crucially, it is also being made available through the new Meta Model API, entering a public preview for US developers starting today. To encourage adoption, Meta is providing $20 in free credits with every new Meta Model API account. It's worth noting that the initial Muse Spark model was exclusively available through Meta AI before its capabilities were expanded to power chatbots within Instagram and WhatsApp, as well as the latest Meta smart glasses.
