Meta AI's newest update introduces the capability to access users' calendars, enabling the generation of personalized daily briefings.

This strategic enhancement aims to position Meta's AI chatbot more competitively against leading platforms such as Gemini, ChatGPT, and Claude. The update integrates advanced productivity tools, including the ability for Meta AI to access your calendar for event planning and daily briefing creation, alongside conducting in-depth, steerable research.

In an official blog post, Meta described this update as a significant stride towards achieving "personal superintelligence," a vision CEO Mark Zuckerberg has frequently championed as the future trajectory of artificial intelligence. The new functionalities are powered by Meta's recently launched Muse Spark 1.1 model, which is designed to expand the chatbot's utility beyond its existing capabilities of responding to queries, creating images, and drafting text.

This strategic pivot represents a departure from the company's prior direction. Last year, Meta CPO Chris Cox reportedly informed employees that the primary objective was to "focus on entertainment" and fostering "connection with friends," rather than "focusing obsessively on productivity" in the manner of competitors like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, as detailed by Alex Heath.

With these enhancements, Meta's AI chatbot can now produce daily calendar-based summaries, scour Facebook Marketplace for items such as used furniture within a specified renovation budget, or identify suitable restaurants for events while cross-referencing your calendar for optimal scheduling. Furthermore, Meta highlights a "set it and forget it" functionality: "you only have to set up tasks with Meta AI once, then you can leave Meta AI to handle them." This enables the AI to deliver recurring calendar briefings without repeated prompts, create weekly meal plans, or provide continuous updates on product restocks.

The company also states that its AI assistant has improved capabilities in synthesizing information from across the internet, transforming it into structured reports, presentations, or plans. A notable new feature, akin to ChatGPT, allows users to modify Meta AI's output direction dynamically during its response generation.

Meta's enhanced AI assistant commenced its rollout today in "select markets" through the Meta AI app and web interface. Broader availability, extending to additional countries and platforms like WhatsApp, is anticipated "in the coming weeks."
