Meta has introduced Muse Image, its latest artificial intelligence-powered image generator, developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company's specialized AI division.

This new functionality, internally referred to as "Mango," will be accessible without charge via the Meta AI app, and integrated directly into Instagram Stories and WhatsApp.

Regarding Muse's capabilities, its applications appear consistent with those of most other AI image generation platforms, enabling users to produce a wide array of playful and stylized images.

For users seeking inspiration or struggling to formulate original prompts, Meta states that Muse includes "presets" — pre-designed image prompts — specifically engineered to "spark ideas."

A complementary video illustrates additional potential applications, such as leveraging Muse for crafting personalized advertisements — a domain where AI has significantly expanded its presence in the past year — or for exploring interior design concepts. For instance, the video demonstrates a user utilizing Muse to visualize how a pre-owned sofa might appear within their garage. This particular feature is slated for integration with Facebook Marketplace, Meta's widely used platform for second-hand furniture and related items.

Furthermore, the model incorporates prompt-driven image editing functionalities, allowing users to generate and refine visuals for seamless sharing across Meta's diverse ecosystem of applications and platforms.

"Users can instruct it to render an image of themselves before a historical landmark, meticulously remove an unwanted individual from the background of a photograph, or compose a unique prompt to construct a functional QR code," the company elaborated.

Concurrently, Meta is rolling out a suite of new AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories, underpinned by Muse. These effects encompass a range of customizable filters designed to enhance and alter existing photographs.

While Meta states that the new AI model is free for "everyday creation," usage beyond a specified threshold will necessitate engagement with Meta's subscription offerings.

The company further disclosed that Muse Video — anticipated to be an AI video generation tool — is "already in development." TechCrunch has reportedly sought additional information from Meta regarding this upcoming feature.

Over the past year, Meta has introduced several AI applications and services, such as an assistant named Creator and Pocket, an application designed for "vibe coding" video games. Despite facing criticisms regarding a perceived indistinct AI strategy, the company remains committed to substantial investment in AI infrastructure throughout the current year as it continues to expand its service portfolio.
