Meta is significantly enhancing the capabilities of its Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses with a series of new feature rollouts. Among these is "display recording," an innovative function that allows users to capture video seamlessly blending the visual information from the lens display, the real-world environment, and ambient audio.
A key upgrade being extended to all users is the ability to compose messages using only hand gestures. This intuitive feature will be integrated across popular platforms such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and will also support “native Android and iOS messaging,” according to Meta.
This gesture-based messaging, powered by the Meta Ray-Ban Display’s accompanying neural wristband, was initially highlighted as one of the most compelling aspects of the device upon its unveiling. While not available at the initial launch, Meta introduced it in January as an early access feature for WhatsApp and Messenger users.
Further enhancements include the expansion of walking directions, which are now accessible “throughout the entire US” and in numerous “major international cities like London, Paris, Rome, and more.” Additionally, live captions are being introduced for WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and for voice messages within Instagram DMs.
In a move to foster innovation, Meta has also initiated a developer preview, enabling the creation of new applications for the Meta Ray-Ban Display. This includes allowing developers to deploy web-based applications directly to the smart glasses.
