Facebook has emerged as the latest social media platform to grant users enhanced authority over the algorithm governing their news feeds.

Meta states that this feature aims to enhance the relevance of content recommendations. Users can fine-tune their preferences and engage directly with the ranking algorithms, with these modifications updating their suggestions instantaneously.

Additionally, Meta has revised Facebook’s three-dot menu to simplify the management of content preferences directly from individual posts. By accessing the menu, users can utilize “Your Algorithm” or choose “Interested” and “Not interested” to signal whether specific content matches their tastes.

The platform may prompt users with follow-up questions to gain deeper insights into their preferences, facilitating more detailed feedback. Users are able to specify the type of content they wish to encounter more or less frequently, which assists Meta in refining its algorithms based on these insights.

The rollout of “Your Algorithm” signifies Meta’s broader initiative to empower users with greater control over their social media journey, particularly as artificial intelligence becomes a dominant force in content discovery. This strategy represents a departure from the traditional recommendation systems that have long defined social media, moving the platform toward a model similar to streaming services that prioritize personalized suggestions based on user interests.

This launch is part of Meta's ongoing personalization strategy across its ecosystem. Instagram introduced “Your Algorithm” in June, expanding customization options for the Feed and Explore sections following its initial debut for Reels in December 2025. Threads has similarly implemented a related feature known as “Dear Algo,” giving users the ability to influence their recommended content.
