Meta’s AI application has experienced a significant surge in installations following the recent Wednesday launch of Muse Spark, the company's latest artificial intelligence model. This release marks the first under Alexandr Wang, who leads Meta's Superintelligence Labs, having been recruited last year from Scale AI specifically to revitalize the social giant's AI initiatives.
New data from market intelligence provider Appfigures reveals a substantial increase in consumer demand for the Meta AI app. It climbed dramatically from its No. 57 position just before Muse Spark's debut on Wednesday to No. 5 on the U.S. App Store by Thursday, indicating a substantial influx of new users.
Meta states that its new AI model, accessible across both web and mobile platforms, represents a considerable advancement over its preceding Llama 4 models. This launch is Meta's most recent strategic move to compete with industry leaders such as OpenAI and Anthropic, an endeavor that has already involved billions in AI talent acquisition and a substantial $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI.
Muse Spark currently supports multimodal input, encompassing voice, text, and images. It has been engineered for proficiency across various tasks, including assisting users with health-related inquiries, facilitating reasoning through complex scientific and mathematical problems, and even aiding in visual coding for the creation of websites and mini-games directly from user prompts.
Furthermore, Meta AI possesses the capability to deploy multiple subagents to efficiently address user questions, according to the company.
The model is slated for a broader rollout to additional Meta platforms in the coming weeks, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and Meta’s AI-powered glasses.
Concurrent with the model's introduction, both the Meta AI mobile app and its website received a visual and functional overhaul, now allowing users to seamlessly switch between different modes depending on their specific task.
Despite this recent impressive growth, the Meta AI app presently trails behind the leading AI chatbots from other prominent model developers, notably OpenAI’s ChatGPT (ranking No. 1), Anthropic’s Claude (No. 2), and Google’s Gemini (No. 3).
Alexandr Wang acknowledged the app's new high ranking in a post on X earlier Thursday, noting that the application is "still growing."
Wang specifically stated, "Meta AI is up to #6 in the App Store overnight, and still growing :)"
Appfigures data further indicates that the Meta AI app has garnered a total of 60.5 million worldwide installations across both the App Store and Google Play. A significant portion of these, 25 million downloads, have occurred just this year.
Over the last five months, downloads for the Meta AI app have seen a remarkable 138% increase when compared to the app’s initial five months of availability.
India now stands as Meta AI’s leading market by downloads, followed by the U.S., Brazil, Pakistan, and Mexico, as reported by Appfigures.
