French startup Linkup is revolutionizing AI by providing an API that connects large language models (LLMs) to premium, legally sourced content. This solution enhances AI-generated answers by incorporating real-time, reliable information, without the legal concerns of web scraping. Linkup facilitates these deals between AI developers and content publishers, ensuring creators are paid for their data. Philippe Mizrahi: “We set up the company around the time when OpenAI was making deals with news sources… for training or inference purposes, to augment the answers from OpenAI models and their products. And we thought: ‘OK, this is great because we finally have AI companies that pay their sources.’” Linkup’s model provides a win-win scenario: it enables AI developers to use fresh content legally, while content providers receive compensation for their work.
