The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has issued a stark warning, indicating its intent to target OpenAI's prospective data center should the United States proceed with any attacks on Iranian power infrastructure.

This threat was conveyed through a video released by the IRGC, specifically mentioning OpenAI's planned Abu Dhabi datacenter as a potential target. Published on April 3rd via an Iranian state-backed news outlet's X account, the video explicitly states the IRGC's readiness to execute the "complete and utter annihilation" of US-affiliated energy and technology firms within the region. The footage notably included an image of OpenAI's impressive $30 billion Stargate facility, currently under construction in the United Arab Emirates.

OpenAI's broader Stargate initiative represents a monumental $500 billion investment, bolstered by significant contributions from industry giants such as Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank. While the exact completion status of the Abu Dhabi datacenter remains undisclosed, an October 2025 update showcased the initial stages of facilities designed to house 16 gigawatts of computing power. This update confirmed that construction was "well underway," aiming to deploy 200 megawatts by 2026. OpenAI has yet to provide a comment regarding these developments.

Beyond showcasing what appeared to be satellite imagery of OpenAI's UAE data center, reportedly sourced from Google Maps, the IRGC's video also featured a photograph of the executives involved in the project. Curiously, this image misidentified Cisco’s chief product officer, Jeetu Patel, as Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

The IRGC's threat follows recent provocative statements from former President Donald Trump over the past weekend. On Truth Social, Trump declared that Tuesday would be "Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day" if Iran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He further conveyed to ABC News on Sunday that the US intended to "blow up the entire country" if Iran did not agree to a deal. In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry asserted on Monday its "determined to defend our national security and sovereignty with all might."
