Humane Ends AI Pin, Joins HP in Major Acquisition
Humane is shutting down its AI Pin and selling to HP for $116 million, ceasing all server connections by February 28, 2025.

Originally reported bytheverge
Humane has announced the sale of most of its company to HP for $116 million, marking the end of its AI Pin product. The company stated that AI Pins already purchased will remain functional until 3 PM ET on February 28, 2025.
After that, users will lose access to features like calling, messaging, and AI queries, as the Pins will no longer connect to Humane’s servers. Users are urged to download any stored content, including photos and notes, before this date, as they will be permanently deleted afterward. While some offline features will still work, any function requiring cloud connectivity will cease to function.
Humane will only provide refunds for AI Pins returned within 90 days of shipment, and requests for refunds must be submitted by February 27, 2025. Customers with subscriptions extending beyond February 28 will receive prorated refunds. Those awaiting replacement charging cases will automatically receive a refund for the relevant portion of their original purchase price after the shutdown.
In addition to acquiring the AI Pin, HP is purchasing Humane’s CosmOS and hiring its technical staff, along with gaining over 300 patents. Despite initial excitement surrounding the AI Pin’s launch, it faced significant criticism and poor sales, leading Humane to seek a buyer shortly after its release. The device was reportedly sold poorly, with returns exceeding sales figures. After launching new features for the CosmOS software, Humane shifted its focus toward positioning CosmOS as an operating system for other devices.
Moving forward, the founding team of Humane will create a new division at HP called HP IQ, which aims to integrate AI into HP's products and services, enhancing the future of work.
