Hark, a startup that successfully secured a substantial $700 million in Series A funding in May, has officially launched its new offering today: agentHark Handoff. This innovative tool is engineered to efficiently complete tasks by leveraging a web browser.
The company asserts that Handoff can effortlessly navigate complex websites, even those without official Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), including prominent platforms such as Target, Walmart, OpenTable, and LinkedIn. Hark further explains that the Handoff agent intelligently analyzes both the website's structural layout and its visual data to determine appropriate interactions, such as clicking specific buttons or inputting information.
The core concept behind Handoff aligns with numerous browser-based agents that have emerged previously. Users issue a command, and the agent then executes the specified tasks. These capabilities span a wide range of activities, from ordering food or coffee and booking travel tickets to filing returns, shopping for essentials, reserving restaurant tables, or conducting research by synthesizing information from various online sources.
During a video demonstration, Hark’s CEO, Brett Adcock, showcased the assistant's ability to create a custom flower bouquet based on user specifications, even accommodating flexible terms like "some of the florist’s choice." It is important to note, however, that the video presented only a segment of the process, making it challenging to fully assess the agent's overall effectiveness.
Hark has stated that for this initial release, it is utilizing a post-trained model, with plans to implement pre-training later this year. This strategic approach, according to the company, allows for more rapid refinement of its data pipeline, training infrastructure, and underlying techniques. Hark also distinguishes its model from large language models (LLMs), claiming that while LLMs predict the next token, its model is designed to predict the next action—which could manifest as a click or a keyboard input at a precise location on a webpage.
The market for computer-use agents is highly active, with significant players like Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic developing advanced solutions. Additionally, numerous venture capital-funded startups are focusing on browser-based task automation, including companies such as Browser Use, Polar, Strawberry, and Aside.
Hark claims that its Handoff agent offers superior speed compared to competitors and is significantly more cost-effective than other advanced models like GPT 5.5 and Opus 4.8. The startup has now opened a waitlist for its platform, with a full release anticipated by the end of the summer.
