This situation arose when an employee altered the chatbot's internal instructions, resulting in Grok refusing to provide answers that mentioned either individual in the context of spreading misinformation. Igor Babuschkin, the head of engineering at xAI, revealed that this change was made without prior approval and was allegedly executed by a former OpenAI employee. After users noticed this unusual behavior, Babuschkin addressed the issue on social media platform X. He explained that the system prompt, which outlines how Grok is programmed to answer queries, is publicly accessible to maintain transparency with users.
