Google announced on Tuesday the widespread expansion of Personal Intelligence, a sophisticated feature designed to enable its AI assistant to deliver highly customized responses by seamlessly connecting with a user's broader Google ecosystem, including services like Gmail and Google Photos. This enhancement is now accessible to all users across the U.S., a significant change from its prior availability exclusively to paid subscribers. Personal Intelligence can be utilized within AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, and Gemini in Chrome.

“Whether you’re looking for a specific brand of sneakers you previously purchased, or planning a family getaway based on your hotel confirmations and past travel memories, Personal Intelligence helps you find exactly what you need without having to give all the context,” Google elaborated in a recent blog post, underscoring the feature's ability to streamline information retrieval and planning.

Crucially, Personal Intelligence is deactivated by default, ensuring users retain complete control over their data by offering the explicit option to decide if and when they wish to link their Google applications to these services.

Consider a scenario at a tire shop where you can't recall your car's tire size; while any standard AI chatbot can assist with this basic query, Personal Intelligence elevates the experience. Gemini, leveraging this feature, can suggest all-weather tires after identifying family road-trip photographs within your Google Photos, demonstrating a deeper, context-aware understanding.

Similarly, when planning a vacation and seeking activities and dining options suitable for your entire family, AI Mode, powered by Personal Intelligence, can draw upon your hotel booking details from Gmail and previous travel experiences from Google Photos. This integration allows it to craft a tailored itinerary with diverse suggestions, such as recommending an old-timey ice cream parlor based on numerous ice cream selfies stored in your Google Photos library.

In another practical application, if you're searching for a new bag to complement recently purchased shoes, Personal Intelligence within Chrome can present a curated selection of options. These recommendations are meticulously tailored to your recent purchases and preferred brands and styles, even incorporating subtle details like purses featuring hardware that perfectly matches your new gold shoes.

Google emphasizes an important privacy distinction: Gemini does not directly train on the contents of your Gmail inbox or Google Photos library. Instead, its learning process is based on specific prompts submitted within Gemini or AI Mode and the subsequent responses generated by the model.

Personal Intelligence is currently available in the U.S. for AI Mode in Search, with a phased rollout commencing for the Gemini app and Gemini in Chrome for free-tier users across the U.S.

It is important to note that these enhanced experiences are exclusively available for personal Google accounts and are not offered to Google Workspace business, enterprise, or education users.
