Google is introducing a "universal" Gemini AI agent designed to streamline work across various applications and devices through a unified interface.
This tool, revealed during the "Gemini at Work" event on Thursday, is integrated into the Gemini Enterprise app, enabling users to communicate with the agent and delegate tasks from one centralized location.
Beyond operating directly within Google Workspace applications such as Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Calendar, the agent offers accessibility via mobile devices, desktops, the web, and third-party platforms like Slack and Microsoft 365.
Because it operates in the cloud, the agent ensures a consistent context across all connected devices.
Google highlights the agent's ability to utilize job-specific sub-agents for task completion, functioning as a "coworker agent" complete with a dedicated identity and a unique "@agents.company.com" email address.
The system automatically selects the most appropriate AI model for the specific job at hand.
While currently in private preview for enterprise customers, this release offers a preview of Google's ambition for a comprehensive AI assistant capable of managing both inquiries and daily work operations from a single window.
This differs from the consumer-focused "Gemini Spark" agent, launched in May, which is limited to Workspace and web tasks but accessible via a separate interface within the main app.
