Google's advanced AI notetaker, Gemini, is significantly expanding its capabilities beyond Google Meet. Users can now leverage Gemini to generate comprehensive summaries and transcripts for in-person meetings, in addition to those conducted on popular platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. This notable expansion was initially reported by 9to5Google, marking a significant step in AI-powered meeting productivity.

Previously, the functionality for in-person meetings was exclusively available to alpha users on Android devices. Google's official support documentation clarifies the flexibility of this feature, stating, "If a user who is not in person wants to join the meeting, you can transition the meeting to a normal video call." Furthermore, the tool is designed for versatility, supporting impromptu discussions without the need for a formal meeting room or a pre-scheduled event.

To activate this feature, users simply navigate to the Google Meet home screen, accessible via the mobile app or desktop, and select the "take notes for me" option to initiate recording. This process remains consistent whether the meeting is held in person or on an external platform. Upon completion, Gemini will automatically generate a detailed summary and identify key "action items" within a Google Doc, which is then conveniently saved to the Google Drive of the user who initiated the recording.
