Google has significantly upgraded its Lyria 3 music generation AI, now allowing it to produce tracks up to three minutes in length, a substantial increase from its previous 30-second limitation. This enhanced version, Lyria 3 Pro, not only extends the maximum duration sixfold but also introduces advanced compositional control, enabling users to specify elements like intros, choruses, and bridges for more tailored arrangements. Furthermore, this functionality is integrated across various Google products.

Operating akin to other prominent music generation platforms like Suno and Udio, Lyria 3 Pro allows users to create music by simply describing a desired mood, style, or instrumentation. Beyond instrumental generation, it can also produce accompanying lyrics, drawing inspiration from text prompts, reference photos, or even videos.

A pivotal advancement of Lyria 3 Pro is its deep integration across the Google ecosystem. Users can now generate music directly within Gemini, eliminating the need for a separate application. Google is also extending this model's availability to Vertex AI for enterprise clients, Google AI Studio and the Gemini API for developers, Google Vids for professional use, and the recently acquired ProducerAI platform. The newly extended track length is expected to be especially valuable for users of ProducerAI, which directly competes with services like Suno.

The capability to generate complete songs, as opposed to short clips, is anticipated to heighten discussions surrounding potential impersonation and copyright infringement. Addressing these concerns, Google stated in a press release that “Lyria 3 and Gemini do not mimic artists,” clarifying that “if a prompt names a creator, the model takes that as broad inspiration.” Furthermore, Google asserts that Lyria 3 Pro’s outputs are rigorously vetted against existing content to prevent the creation of infringing material, and a silent SynthID watermark is embedded to unequivocally mark them as AI-generated.
