Google is entering the creative design market with the launch of Google Pics, a new image creation and editing tool that will be integrated into the Google Workspace suite for business clients and premium Google AI subscribers.

The company indicates that this product, which runs on Google’s Nano Banana image generation model, will be available to most Workspace users and those paying for Google AI Pro or Ultra subscriptions in the upcoming weeks.

Similar to competitors like Adobe Express and Canva, Google’s new application is designed for everyday professional and personal design needs, such as creating posters, social media graphics, and illustrations.

However, unlike Canva, which allows artists to monetize templates and graphics in a marketplace, Google Pics focuses on AI-generated content created from prompts based on artist training data.

Furthermore, whereas Adobe Express is typically used to create original designs, Google Pics functions as a tool where users generate visuals through text prompts rather than designing from scratch.

The application also offers various editing utilities, including object isolation and transformation, text modification or translation within images, and the ability to generate multiple variations so users can select the best result.

The software will be embedded directly into Google Workspace, beginning today with Docs and Slides, with a planned expansion to Google Drive at a later date.
