Google has introduced a new AI feature called “auto browse” in Chrome, powered by its Gemini AI, aimed at enhancing users’ browsing experience. Available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US, this feature can execute multi-step tasks such as researching hotel and flight prices, scheduling appointments, completing online forms, and managing subscriptions.
This update builds on Gemini’s previous capabilities, where it initially served as an AI assistant helping with simple queries or summarizing content on a webpage. Over time, Gemini expanded to compare products across multiple tabs and recall pages from browsing history. The latest version allows the AI to take on more complex tasks, such as identifying items in photos, finding similar products online, adding them to a shopping cart, and applying discount codes—all while ensuring that users stay within their budget. If logging into an account is necessary, Gemini can leverage Chrome's password manager to sign in.
Additionally, the Gemini interface in Chrome has undergone a redesign, moving from a pop-up window to a panel on the right side of the screen. It now integrates with services like Gmail, Calendar, Maps,Google Shopping, and Google Flights, enabling Gemini to reference and perform actions across these apps. For instance, while traveling to a conference, Gemini can retrieve event details from old emails, use Google Flights for booking suggestions, and even help draft an email to colleagues about your arrival time.
This new functionality makes Gemini a more powerful tool for users who want to streamline their online tasks, making the browsing experience both smarter and more efficient.
