Google Gemini Blasts Past 1 Billion Users

Google has achieved a remarkable milestone as its Gemini app has officially exceeded 1 billion monthly active users, making it one of the company's most rapidly expanding products. CEO Sundar Pichai shared this significant update on X, also highlighting that Gemini is the 14th Google offering to reach this impressive user count.

This swift expansion positions Gemini competitively with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which itself reached the 1 billion monthly active user threshold in June.

Google has systematically integrated Gemini functionalities across its diverse product ecosystem, including Search, Workspace, Android, and its dedicated application. While Google's AI Mode within Search has independently garnered over 1 billion monthly active users worldwide, the newly announced figure specifically pertains to the standalone Gemini app and excludes users engaging with AI features through other Google platforms.

Furthermore, Google has consistently introduced new models and capabilities, such as Gemini 3.5 Flash, which is engineered to enhance performance in coding and autonomous AI-agent assignments.

Insights into user engagement reveal that a significant 63% of Gemini users leverage the voice feature for direct interaction with the assistant. Additionally, Google reports that Gemini is now responsible for generating over 150 million images daily.

Gemini's expansion extends beyond Google's proprietary ecosystem, with the company confirming more than 100 million active users on iOS devices.

This significant achievement closely follows Google's Q2 2026 earnings call, where the company highlighted having over 950 million monthly users and a tripling of daily active users over the past year. The timing of this announcement also precedes the anticipated Made by Google event, at which further Gemini-powered features are expected to debut across Pixel devices.
