Google revealed on Monday the expansion of its Gemini in Chrome feature to seven additional markets: Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. This functionality is being deployed across both desktop and iOS platforms in all listed nations, with Japan being the sole exception to the dual-platform rollout.
Since last year, Google has progressively integrated AI and its Gemini capabilities into Chrome, initially through a distinctive floating window interface.
Earlier this year, the tech giant further enhanced Chrome by introducing a sidebar-based assistant. This assistant is designed to facilitate answering questions across multiple tabs and leverages Gemini's Personal Intelligence feature, enabling users to connect with services like Gmail and Google Photos for highly personalized responses. Furthermore, this integrated feature empowers users to schedule meetings via Calendar, ascertain location details using Maps, and compose and dispatch emails directly through Gmail within Chrome.
Additionally, users gain the ability to transform web-based images utilizing Nano Banana 2, accessible directly within the sidebar.
Initially, Gemini in Chrome was made available to users in the U.S. following its launch in January. The company subsequently broadened its reach in March, extending availability to India, Canada, and New Zealand.
This latest rollout significantly expands the global footprint of Gemini in Chrome. It is important to note, however, that the company's more advanced "agentic feature," designed to autonomously control browser windows and complete complex tasks on a user's behalf, remains in its testing phase. This particular functionality is currently exclusive to subscribers of AI Pro and AI Ultra paid plans within the U.S.
