Google has announced a significant enhancement to its vibe-coding application, Opal, by introducing a novel method for creating automated workflows. The company revealed on Tuesday that a new agent within Opal will empower users to develop mini-applications capable of planning and executing tasks through intuitive text prompts.
This innovative feature leverages the Gemini 3 Flash model, enabling it to autonomously select appropriate tools for task execution. For instance, the system can utilize Google Sheets to maintain persistent memory across sessions, such as compiling a shopping list for an e-commerce-related application. Crucially, this new agent independently formulates and plans subsequent steps required to complete tasks.
Google emphasized the natively interactive nature of these agents, explaining that they will proactively request additional information from users or present choices to guide the determination of next steps when necessary. This addition, the company claims, democratizes complex workflow creation, making it accessible even to users without specialized technical expertise.
The Opal vibe-coding app initially launched for U.S. users in July 2025, providing a platform for anyone to build or remix mini web apps. Its global reach expanded in October 2025 with a rollout to 15 additional countries, including Canada, India, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, and Singapore. Further integration occurred in December when Google incorporated Opal into the Gemini web app, allowing users to design custom applications via a visual editor without writing any code.
Beyond Google, a burgeoning ecosystem of startups is also developing tools that facilitate app creation through natural language prompts. Prominent players in this space include Lovable and Replit. Other emerging companies gaining traction are Wabi, founded by the former Replika founder, Softbank and Lightspeed-backed Emergent, and Accel-backed Rocket.new.
