Google Makes Gemini Live Screen Sharing Free for All Android Users

Google has announced that Gemini Live’s camera and screen sharing feature is now free for all Android users through the Gemini app. This tool allows users to show what's on their phone screen or in front of their camera so the AI can respond in real-time. Initially, the feature was limited to Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 users and was set to require a Gemini Advanced subscription once expanded to other devices. However, Google has changed course and decided to offer it to all Android users without any cost. The update comes after positive feedback from early users. In a post on X, Google stated, “We’ve been hearing great feedback on Gemini Live with camera and screen share, so we decided to bring it to more people.” The rollout begins today and will continue over the coming weeks for Android users with the Gemini app installed. A demonstration video shared by Google shows how the feature works. In the example, a user points their phone’s camera at animals in an aquarium, and Gemini provides information based on what it sees. This interaction highlights the feature’s potential for real-time assistance and learning. This announcement coincides with Microsoft’s launch of a similar AI feature called Copilot Vision, which is now available for free in the Edge browser. Both companies appear to be accelerating efforts to make AI tools more widely accessible, removing earlier paywalls to encourage broader use. The decision to make Gemini Live free marks a shift in strategy for Google, as it moves to compete more directly with other AI services by increasing the availability of advanced features. Android users can expect the update to become available soon, offering them enhanced interaction with Gemini’s AI without needing to upgrade to a premium plan.
