Google is rolling out a comprehensive suite of updates to NotebookLM, its AI-powered note-taking application, enabling users to initiate research directly through a chat interface.

Central to these enhancements is the integration of Google’s upgraded Gemini 3.5 model. This advancement is designed to equip NotebookLM with the capability to respond with "more accurate and reliable information," as stated in a blog post released on Monday, significantly bolstering the app's core intelligence.

Launched in 2023, NotebookLM has consistently allowed users to interact with their notes and sources using AI, in addition to posing questions about their materials. With this latest update, Google is streamlining the research workflow: users can now commence a research project simply by asking NotebookLM questions about a topic, removing the previous requirement to import notes or YouTube videos. The application will leverage Google Search to identify relevant sources, building upon its "discover" feature to help unearth valuable web resources.

Furthermore, NotebookLM now operates on Antigravity, Google’s sophisticated agentic coding platform. Each notebook within the application is connected to a "secure cloud computer," empowering NotebookLM to write and execute code, thereby assisting with complex research tasks. This enhancement also broadens the app's output versatility, allowing information to be generated in various new formats and file types, including PDF documents, data visualizations (PNG, SVG), Nano Banana-generated images (PNG, JPG, GIF), Excel and PowerPoint files, and CSV sheets, among others.

These significant updates are currently being made available to subscribers of Google’s AI Ultra plan and existing Workspace customers. Google has also indicated plans to expand accessibility to a wider range of plans in the future.
