The ongoing speculation surrounding the origins of Fenix Flexin’s track “Rubberz” has intensified, with a new detection tool from Treblo indicating the song was "very likely Treblo." While initial suspicions pointed to general AI generation, musician Medasin had specifically asserted the use of Treblo's technology, a claim now seemingly corroborated by the company's own diagnostic tool.
This development follows Treblo's announcement on Monday regarding the release of its open-source Treblo AI Music Classifier. This specialized tool is designed exclusively to identify music generated by Treblo's AI, boasting an impressive false positive rate of less than 1 in 1,000, as detailed in a recent blog post. Significantly, the Classifier itself analyzed “Rubberz” and concluded it was “very likely Treblo” with “high confidence,” further complicating the public relations challenge for Fenix Flexin.
Treblo, for its part, appears to be embracing the spotlight. CEO Ryan Tremblay stated to The Verge, “The classifier returns a very high probability score for Rubberz, indicating the released audio was generated almost entirely by our model. That would make it the first known AI-generated song to reach the Billboard Hot 100.” Tremblay added, “Someone appears to have used our model to find a sound that millions of people connected with and that’s exciting.”
Despite these findings, Fenix Flexin continues to deny any AI involvement in “Rubberz,” presenting what he claims are project files from the recording session in video clips. However, the low quality of these videos has done little to quash the allegations. Stereogum reported that Medasin, in a now-expired Instagram story, argued that Fenix likely employed an AI stem separator to fabricate the session evidence.
