ElevenLabs, a prominent voice AI company, has unveiled Music v2, a significantly enhanced iteration of its music-generation model. This new version boasts the remarkable capability to seamlessly transition between genres within a single track. The company highlights that Music v2 is engineered to expertly manage intricate vocal performances and complex compositional structures, marking a substantial upgrade nearly ten months after the debut of its initial music generation model.

The advanced functionalities of Music v2 are extensive. ElevenLabs demonstrates that the model can effortlessly shift from an operatic style to heavy metal and back again, maintain perfect coherence during rapid rap segments, and even integrate non-musical sound effects into compositions. This empowers artists with unprecedented creative control, allowing them to isolate and regenerate specific sections of a song using prompts, without affecting other parts of the track.

Furthermore, artists are no longer limited to generating short clips; Music v2 facilitates the construction of entire songs segment by segment, encompassing intros, verses, and choruses, which can then be seamlessly stitched together. ElevenLabs also affirms that the model delivers heightened reliability and performance across diverse languages, lyrical content, vocal styles, and musical arrangements.

This release arrives amidst a burgeoning competitive landscape, as numerous AI laboratories have accelerated their efforts to introduce professional-grade music generation models. Industry giants such as Google, Stability AI, and Suno have similarly launched their own advanced models, featuring capabilities for crafting longer and more intricate musical pieces. Notably, at its recent I/O developer conference, Google showcased its Flow Music tool, which enables users to easily create covers, edit songs section by section, and generate accompanying music videos.

A critical aspect emphasized by ElevenLabs is that Music v2 has been developed using licensed data and is fully cleared for commercial deployment, granting users complete freedom to utilize the generated tracks. This commitment to securing proper licensing agreements with labels is paramount, especially given that other AI music startups, including Suno and Udio, have faced legal challenges concerning copyright infringement.

The new Music v2 model is currently accessible via ElevenLabs’ ElevenCreative tool, tailored for marketing and branding professionals, and on the recently launched ElevenMusic platform, dedicated to creating AI-generated songs. Integration with the ElevenAPI is also slated for release in the near future.
