Editing files created by Gemini no longer necessitates exiting the application.
Users can now generate, preview, and modify a variety of file types directly within Google Gemini. These formats include PDFs, Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code. This feature is available to all users starting today. While PDF previews and editing are supported on both the web and mobile platforms, other file formats are currently exclusive to the web version.
Although Google previously introduced the ability to generate and download files in Gemini, users can now refine these documents without switching apps. Google highlights the ability to expand documents to full-screen mode and use text highlighting to query the AI or instruct it to make specific changes, such as converting a highlighted table into a graph.
Previously, users could utilize Gemini to edit files through integrations within Google's Workspace applications, such as the Gemini bar in Google Docs. Anthropic also introduced a similar feature earlier this year that enables users to generate and edit documents and presentations within Claude chats.
