Music streaming giant Deezer has been diligently monitoring the proliferation of AI-generated tracks uploaded to its platform since last year, observing a consistent upward trend. The company recently disclosed that AI music now accounts for over 50% of all downloads, signaling a significant shift in content consumption.
The surge in AI-generated track uploads reached its apex in June 2026, when the platform saw a monthly average of 90,000 such tracks uploaded daily.
The rapid expansion of AI-generated music has compelled streaming services to formulate policies regarding its presence on their platforms. However, there is currently no industry-wide consensus on how to manage this new content. Some platforms, like Bandcamp, have adopted strict measures by banning such tracks entirely, while Tidal has opted to cut off monetization for them. Conversely, Apple Music employs a voluntary AI-tagging system, and Spotify has developed its own policy detailing the extent of AI usage in music creation.
Deezer's latest initiative to address this trend involves the removal of AI-generated tracks that have not garnered any streams in the past six months or those implicated in fraudulent streaming activities designed to inflate revenue.
“Deezer has been at the frontline of fighting fraud and reducing payment dilution related to AI music for almost two years. Now that half of all daily uploads are AI-generated tracks, we are taking additional steps to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, while maintaining focus on music that fans actually love,” stated Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier.
The streamer first released statistics concerning AI music uploads in January 2025, when the daily upload volume stood at approximately 10,000 tracks, constituting 10% of total daily uploads. This figure grew to 20,000 tracks, or 18% of daily uploads, by April 2025. It further escalated to 30,000 tracks, representing 28% of daily uploads in September 2025, before reaching 50,000 daily uploads, or 34% of the total, in November 2025.
The growth continued into the current year, with 60,000 tracks, or 39% of daily uploads, recorded in January 2026. By April 2026, this number had climbed to 75,000 tracks, making up 44% of daily uploads.
Deezer began labeling AI music on its platform last year and asserts that its advanced detection technology can identify tracks generated using models from prominent AI-music startups like Suno and Udio, both of which are currently embroiled in copyright lawsuits. Earlier this year, Deezer made its detection technology available to other platforms, though it remains unconfirmed whether any major streaming services have adopted the tool. Additionally, last month, the company launched a new tool capable of scanning Apple Music and Spotify playlists for AI-generated content.
