Streaming platform Deezer is actively developing a new toggle feature that allows users to filter out AI-generated music uploaded to the service. The company announced on Tuesday that this new functionality will be rolled out before the end of the year.
Enabling this setting will prevent users from encountering AI-generated tracks, albums, and connected artists within their search results.
Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier emphasized the strong user demand for this tool in a statement. He explained that the platform is providing an option for users to completely remove AI content from their experience, allowing them to focus exclusively on human-created music if they choose.
Lanternier noted that the surge in AI music on the platform was a primary driver for this change, citing a 2022 survey which found that approximately 45% of Deezer customers wanted a way to eliminate AI tracks from their feeds.
The company has been monitoring the rise of AI music since implementing detection tooling last year. At that time, AI tracks accounted for 10% of daily uploads, a figure that has since skyrocketed.
By July of this year, the company reported that over 50% of daily uploads were AI-generated, averaging around 90,000 tracks per day.
Other major streaming services are also implementing policies regarding AI-generated content. While Bandcamp has completely prohibited AI tracks and Tidal has halted monetization for them, Spotify has adopted a tagging strategy to highlight such content.
Separately, Variety reported in August that Apple Music intends to label AI tracks by the end of the year. Additionally, users are increasingly relying on independent tracking systems to identify music created by artificial intelligence.
