Daniel Moreno-Gama is currently facing federal charges following allegations that he journeyed from Texas to California with the explicit intention of assassinating OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. His apprehension occurred on April 10th, subsequent to an incident where he reportedly hurled a Molotov cocktail at Mr. Altman's residence and subsequently tried to breach the security of OpenAI's corporate headquarters. Prosecutors state that during the attempt at the headquarters, "Moreno-Gama attempted to break the glass doors of the building with a chair and stated that he had come to burn down the location and kill anyone inside."

The Department of Justice has outlined the charges against him, which encompass "attempted damage and destruction of property by means of explosives and possession of an unregistered firearm." These offenses carry potential maximum sentences of 20 years and 10 years in prison, respectively.

Upon his arrest, San Francisco Police Department officers discovered that Moreno-Gama was in possession of several items, including "incendiary devices, a jug of kerosene," and a lighter. Furthermore, authorities recovered a document titled "Your Last Warning," which explicitly "advocated against AI and for the killing and commission of other crimes against CEOs of AI companies and their investors."

Investigators confirmed that this document, authored by Moreno-Gama, was a three-part series expressing strong opposition to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its executives, including Sam Altman, referred to as Victim-1 in the document. A similar iteration of this manifesto was reportedly emailed by Moreno-Gama to contacts at his former college in Texas on April 10, 2026.

The initial section of the document, titled "Your Last Warning" and attributed to "Daniel Moreno-Gama," contained a chilling admission where Moreno-Gama claimed he "killed /attempted to kill" Victim-1. He also penned the disturbing statement: "Also if I am going to advocate for others to kill and commit crimes, then I must lead by example and show that I am fully sincere in my message." This part additionally detailed the names and addresses of individuals identified as board members, chief executive officers of AI companies, and investors.

The second segment, titled "Some more words on the matter of our impending extinction," delved into Moreno-Gama's perspectives on the alleged existential threat that Artificial Intelligence poses to humankind.

Concluding the series was a letter addressed to Victim-1, ominously titled "To [Victim-1’s name] if you make it." In this final message, Moreno-Gama asserted, "If by some miracle you live, then I would take this as a sign from the divine to redeem yourself…"
