The AI coding assistant Cursor has reportedly achieved an annualized revenue exceeding $2 billion, a figure derived by annualizing its latest monthly revenue. A source familiar with the matter, speaking to Bloomberg, indicated that the four-year-old startup has seen its revenue run rate double over the past quarter.
This financial disclosure appears strategically timed to address recent industry skepticism. Last week, widespread social media discussions questioned Cursor's market momentum, citing notable transitions of individual developers to rival platforms, particularly Anthropic’s Claude Code.
Established in 2022, Cursor initially targeted individual developers. However, over the past year, the company has increasingly focused on securing large corporate clients, which now contribute approximately 60% of its total revenue, according to Bloomberg's findings.
While some individual developers and smaller startups have indeed migrated from Cursor to Claude Code, often citing its more competitive pricing, this attrition does not seem to extend to Cursor's higher-spending corporate clientele, who typically demonstrate greater loyalty and retention.
Beyond Claude Code, the burgeoning market for AI-assisted software development also sees competition from OpenAI’s coding tool, Codex. Other emerging players in this rapidly expanding sector include startups such as Replit, Cognition, and Lovable.
Cursor's most recent valuation stood at $29.3 billion following a $2.3 billion funding round in November, which was co-led by Accel and Coatue.
Cursor did not provide an immediate response when contacted for comment.
