Google Chrome is introducing a powerful new workflow enhancement designed to streamline user interaction with AI, allowing you to create, save, and instantly deploy your most valuable Gemini commands across various web pages. This innovative feature, named 'Skills,' transforms any AI prompt into a reusable asset within the Chrome desktop browser, enabling effortless execution across selected tabs with just a single click.

Highlighting the convenience this brings, Chrome product manager Hafsah Ismail explained the motivation behind the launch: “Until now, repeating an AI task — like asking for ingredient substitutions to make a recipe vegan — meant re-entering the same prompt as you visited different pages.” She further elaborated on the solution, stating, “To make this easier, we’re launching Skills in Chrome, which lets you save and reuse your most helpful AI prompts and run them with a single click.”

The rollout of Skills commences today for Chrome users with their language settings configured to US English. Users can manage this feature by simply typing a forward slash ( / ) within Gemini and selecting the compass icon. AI prompts can be conveniently saved as Skills directly from your Gemini chat history on desktop, ensuring their availability for reuse across any other desktop devices signed into the same Google account on Chrome.

The primary objective of Skills is to eliminate the necessity for Chrome users to manually retype frequently used Gemini prompts or resort to tedious copy-pasting from personal lists. Google has noted several practical applications developed by early testers, including commands for calculating the nutritional content of online recipes and generating side-by-side comparisons of product specifications when browsing across multiple shopping tabs.

Complementing user-created Skills, Google is also launching a curated library of preset Skills that users can readily save and utilize. These ready-to-use Skills offer a convenient starting point, are fully customizable to meet individual needs, and remove the requirement to craft prompts from scratch.
