OpenAI has announced a new version of its ChatGPT Pro subscription, now available at $100 per month. This latest Pro tier significantly enhances access to its powerful Codex coding tool, offering "5x more" usage compared to the existing $20 per month Plus subscription. OpenAI indicates that this new option is ideally suited for "longer, high-effort Codex sessions."

The company's introduction of this new tier is a strategic move to strengthen its competitive position against rivals such as Anthropic and its popular Claude Code tool. ChatGPT's $100 per month offering is designed to directly compete with Anthropic's "Max" tier for Claude, which is priced identically. Furthermore, this new tier provides a valuable middle ground between the more affordable $20 per month Plus tier and a higher-end $200 version of the Pro tier.

It is worth noting that there are now two distinct "Pro" tiers. While the newly launched $100 tier "still offers access to all Pro features," OpenAI specifies that the more expensive $200 version provides even higher usage limits for its services.

OpenAI clarifies that ChatGPT Plus, at $20, "will continue to be the best offer for steady, day-to-day usage of Codex." The new $100 Pro tier, on the other hand, is positioned as "a more accessible upgrade path for heavier daily use," catering to professionals with more intensive demands. The company also continues to offer an $8 per month Go tier and a free tier, providing a comprehensive range of options for its user base.
