OpenAI’s ChatGPT Surpasses 500 Million Weekly Users
Originally reported bydig
OpenAI’s ChatGPT has achieved a major milestone, surpassing 500 million weekly active users and processing more than 2.5 billion prompts each day. According to Axios, over 330 million of these daily prompts come from users in the United States alone. In December, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman reported that ChatGPT handled around 1 billion daily queries, meaning usage has more than doubled in just a few months. Altman revealed during a conversation with TED curator Chris Anderson that around 10% of the world’s population now uses ChatGPT, highlighting its rapid global adoption. The platform has grown from 300 million weekly active users in December to over 500 million by March, with daily usage quadrupling over the past year. Most users access the free version of ChatGPT, but OpenAI continues to expand its capabilities and explore new tools to maintain its growth momentum. Among its latest developments is an AI-powered web browser, which Reuters reports is being designed to compete directly with Google Chrome. The browser is expected to integrate with ChatGPT Agent, a feature that can autonomously perform tasks on a user’s device, pushing the boundaries of what AI assistants can do. The surge in ChatGPT usage reflects a growing reliance on AI tools for tasks ranging from research and communication to creativity and productivity. As OpenAI explores new products and features, ChatGPT’s rapid expansion signals how artificial intelligence is becoming an essential part of everyday life for millions of people worldwide.
