Once installed, the ChatGPT extension allows the AI to access data from your currently open tabs or easily integrate the bot into the sidebar for quick assistance.

Although the standalone ChatGPT Atlas browser has been discontinued, OpenAI is enhancing its Google Chrome extension to utilize browser tabs already open on your device. According to OpenAI, users can now allow ChatGPT to inspect these tabs within the web or desktop applications. The company demonstrated this capability by showing a user asking the AI to compare three open tabs regarding sofa options.

OpenAI provided several example queries designed to showcase the functionality of this updated add-on.

Additionally, the update integrates ChatGPT Work capabilities that allow the AI to "control" your Chrome tabs. This includes performing actions such as sending messages, filling out forms, and downloading files. The feature mirrors Google’s "auto browse" capabilities and also provides tools to organize or group open tabs.
