Brave Search Enhances Queries with AI Chat for Follow-Ups
Brave Search introduces AI chat for follow-up questions, combining search and chat for smarter, seamless, and more engaging online searches.

Brave Search is making online searches smarter and more interactive with the launch of its new AI chat feature, announced on Thursday. The update lets users ask follow-up questions on initial queries. It enhances Brave’s “Answer with AI” summaries. Search is now more seamless and conversational.
With this new addition, users no longer need to start a fresh search to refine or expand their inquiry. For example, if you search “Christopher Nolan films,” you’ll receive an AI summary of the director’s notable works.
Below the summary, a new chat bar appears, inviting you to “Ask a follow-up question.” You could then type a query like, “Which actors appear most in his films?” and enter a chat mode where the AI provides detailed responses along with source links for transparency.
This functionality sets Brave apart from Google, the leading search engine, which offers similar AI-generated overviews but lacks the ability to follow up with conversational queries.
Brave's new feature combines the strengths of traditional search engines, such as fetching links and images, with the context-driven exploration offered by AI chatbots.
Powered by a mix of open and internal large language models (LLMs), the tool provides accurate and contextually relevant answers. Brave also emphasizes privacy, assuring users that their queries are not stored or used for profiling.
Brave Search handles over 36 million daily queries, with its “Answer with AI” tool generating 11 million answers daily. This makes the platform a strong competitor in the search engine space, offering users an intuitive and private alternative to mainstream options.
By blending search and chat capabilities, Brave’s latest update eliminates the need for separate tools, creating a unified search experience that’s smarter, faster, and more user-friendly.
