The Attie tool represents an expansion of Bluesky’s experimental platform, initially designed for AI-generated social feeds. This update introduces creation capabilities, enabling everyday users to develop interactive experiences that previously required software engineering expertise.
These user-generated games, websites, and experiences will operate on the same AT Protocol (atproto) that underpins Bluesky and other decentralized social applications within the Atmosphere network.
During an interview at Disrupt, Bluesky CEO Toni Schneider announced the new features, stating, “We’re adding a feature to our Attie product that allows you to build sites and social experiences again for a group of people. So think of it as… social vibe coding or vibe coding for your community.”
Schneider, a former Automattic CEO and True Ventures partner, has been leading the company on an interim basis following Jay Graber’s resignation in March to become chief innovation officer. He is now fully guiding the company as it navigates the AI era.
“Vibe coding today is kind of a single-user, solo experience,” Schneider explained. “And what I want to be able to do is build together or build for a group of people, and that’s what this product does.”
When utilizing Attie, creators are linked to their atproto identity, and the platform suggests project ideas based on their public Bluesky profiles.
Users can utilize their own AI models or open-weight options to build content, which can then reach Bluesky’s wider audience, noted COO Rose Wang.
“Everybody is building…But the big question is: who’s using the thing you’re building, because we haven’t solved that problem with distribution,” she said. “This is what makes Attie so interesting is that it comes with the Bluesky distribution, so it doesn’t stand alone.”
The network currently boasts 47 million registered users, though engagement has declined as some users return to X.
Beyond serving as a testing ground, Attie supports Bluesky’s strategy to boost network activity by targeting developers and communities in the coming months. This includes the protocol's upcoming support for private data, currently in alpha testing and scheduled for a year-end rollout.
“There should be lots and lots of these fun, small social experiences for your friends,” said Schneider, highlighting the types of projects Attie will enable. “We don’t all have to go communicate with the entire world all the time.”
