A recent report from the Financial Times suggests that Anthropic is likely to receive a high "junk" credit rating upon its initial public offering.

According to the Financial Times, Blackstone, which serves as an anchor investor in a recent $63 billion financing deal for Anthropic's chip needs, informed investors that it anticipates the AI lab receiving a "high" junk rating post-IPO. Previously, Blackstone had predicted that the Claude-maker would achieve an investment-grade rating, signifying low risk for lenders, before 2027.

The report indicates that Blackstone now forecasts a "double B" rating, which represents the top tier of speculative "junk" status.

TechCrunch attempted to reach out to both Anthropic and Blackstone for comment, but both parties declined to respond.

While Blackstone's forecast is merely a prediction, a high junk rating would significantly complicate and increase the cost for Anthropic to secure the capital necessary to fund its massive spending, which has been a cornerstone of its operations. The lab has engaged in a significant spending spree over the last year, securing large deals for compute power, a strategy that has raised concerns among investors.

Anthropic officially filed for an initial public offering earlier this week, igniting widespread speculation regarding how this massive IPO will impact the broader artificial intelligence industry.
