Apple's efforts to introduce a more personalized Siri, delayed nearly a year ago, are reportedly still falling short of desired performance standards.
Bloomberg reports that Apple, which was reportedly aiming to roll out significant enhancements to Siri with iOS 26.4, has now shifted its plans to introduce these features in subsequent iOS versions, specifically iOS 26.5 and iOS 27.
Approximately a year ago, Apple postponed the release of anticipated Siri functionalities designed to comprehend a user's personal context and execute actions based on on-screen content. These capabilities were initially slated for the March launch of iOS 26.4; however, "testing uncovered fresh problems with the software," according to Bloomberg. Consequently, Apple has reportedly directed its engineers to utilize the May release of iOS 26.5 for further testing of these new Siri features.
Bloomberg also indicates that iOS 26.5 is being used to test a web search tool akin to Perplexity, alongside custom image generation capabilities, both of which were also previously tested with iOS 26.4.
Furthermore, Bloomberg reported in January that Apple is developing an AI chatbot iteration of Siri, planned for release with iOS 27, iPadOS, and macOS 27. This new version is expected to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, preceding a broader launch in September.
