Apple introduced its significantly enhanced, AI-driven assistant at its Worldwide Developers Conference, WWDC 2026, on Monday, following a two-year period where a more intelligent Siri had been anticipated but not delivered.
Dubbed "Siri AI," this new iteration seeks to evolve the assistant beyond simple voice control, transforming it into a comprehensive AI companion capable of much broader functions. Its introduction will coincide with the release of a dedicated Siri application.
This updated Siri is engineered to leverage real-time global knowledge to provide well-informed answers to user inquiries. Furthermore, the assistant gains the ability to access and interpret information directly from a user's device, tailoring responses based on the content actively displayed on their screen.
Apple is positioning Siri as a robust conversational AI chatbot, directly challenging established platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This significant upgrade represents a fundamental shift from Siri's previous identity as primarily a voice-activated assistant.
Upon receiving information requests, Siri will present results through intuitive text cards, encompassing data sourced from the web or specific details extracted from text messages.
A visual redesign has also been implemented for modern iPhones, integrating Siri directly into the Dynamic Island. This replaces the previous screen glow animation, which appeared when Siri was activated, with a new, dynamic animation within the Dynamic Island itself.
A new feature, "Write with Siri," offers users assistance in text composition. When utilized within Mail and Messages, the assistant intelligently adapts its writing style to mirror a user's typical communication patterns with specific colleagues or friends. For instance, if a user habitually sends concise and direct messages to their manager, Siri will emulate this style when drafting an email.
Users can initiate a search or a typed conversation with Siri by swiping down from the Dynamic Island. Alternatively, invoking "Hey Siri" or pressing the side button will prompt the assistant to deliver more comprehensive responses.
The tech innovator also highlights a completely revamped voice experience for Siri, now capable of customized speaking paces and enhanced expressivity. Complementing this, system-wide dictation has received a significant accuracy upgrade, ensuring more precise capture of spoken words, including spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
"Siri AI" empowers users to request detailed plans, engage in iterative discussions, facilitate brainstorming sessions, receive feedback on documents, among a host of other advanced functionalities.
On macOS, Siri's capabilities are now universally accessible, thanks to its integration into Spotlight, which can now also provide answers to questions. For watchOS users, the convenience extends to asking questions and performing actions directly from their Apple Watch.
