According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is planning to revolutionize Siri by making it more conversational and intelligent. Dubbed “LLM Siri,” the upgraded assistant is designed to compete with advanced AI systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini Live.
Powered by Apple’s advanced AI models, LLM Siri aims to deliver natural, human-like interactions while taking Siri’s practical capabilities to the next level.
The updated Siri will reportedly handle more complex tasks, including using App Intents to interact seamlessly with third-party apps. It will also leverage Apple Intelligence to summarize or draft text and “understand” on-screen content to perform in-app actions. These updates are part of Apple’s broader plan to integrate AI across its devices.
Apple plans to announce the overhaul as early as next year, but the full rollout of LLM Siri’s new software is expected by spring 2026.
Apple senior VP of software Craig Federighi hinted at Siri’s enhanced functionality in a recent interview:
“There’s a spectrum here, a tradeoff across capabilities. Will these worlds converge? Of course, that’s where the direction is going.”
While Apple has taken a cautious approach to AI integration, the company recently introduced a ChatGPT feature into Siri with iOS 18.2 beta. This move aligns with its focus on practicality, ensuring that Siri remains a reliable tool for everyday tasks like opening apps, sending texts, or managing smart home devices.
With over a decade of dominance in the voice assistant space, Apple’s LLM Siri could redefine how users interact with their devices. The blend of conversational AI and practical functionality positions Siri as a strong contender in the evolving AI landscape.
