Apple announced on Monday at WWDC 2026 that its Photos application is set to receive a suite of new artificial intelligence features, all powered by Apple Intelligence.

A notable addition is the spatial “Reframe” feature, which allows users to utilize AI to adjust image perspectives. This innovative tool can resolve common photographic challenges, such as an unintentionally captured sign above a subject, a slightly asymmetrical composition that would benefit from minor repositioning, or a fleeting moment where eye contact with a subject was just missed. The new reframing capability addresses all these issues with precision.

Users can intuitively manipulate photos by touching and dragging, effectively altering the perspective as if they had physically repositioned the camera during the initial capture. The effect is visible in real-time, providing immediate visual feedback. As the photo undergoes adjustment, a blurred area appears around the original image's edges, which Apple’s sophisticated generative models subsequently fill with new content.

This feature specifically generates new content only in the regions where the perspective has been modified. This targeted approach ensures that the reframed photograph maintains authentic consistency with the original scene.

The “Extend” tool is another powerful enhancement, designed to expand images, thereby granting subjects more visual space or effortlessly straightening a crooked horizon without cropping out any crucial elements. Users can simply pinch to zoom out or adjust the crop to seamlessly incorporate additional details into the scene.

Furthermore, the app’s widely used “Cleanup” tool is receiving a significant upgrade. This enhancement empowers users to remove distractions with improved quality and more realistic infill, thanks to advanced generative AI. Users can easily activate this feature by tapping, brushing, or circling the specific elements they wish to remove.
