Siri AI is poised to execute tasks across a significantly broader spectrum of applications.
Apple will now permit Siri AI to execute actions within third-party applications. As part of the iOS 27.3 update releasing on Tuesday, Apple announced that developers can now incorporate Siri AI’s latest features into "all apps." This integration allows the voice assistant to leverage a user's personal context, process natural language prompts, and utilize on-screen awareness to fulfill user requests.
This update, distributed as a Developer Preview, introduces a new "app skills" capability that third-party developers can implement. This feature enables the combination of multiple tasks into a single action. In its developer documentation, Apple states that users will not need to explicitly mention an app's name during a request, provided the app is currently in the foreground, running a Live Activity, or being discussed within a conversation about that app.
"For example, a person might request a ride with a ride share app, follow updates to the app's Live Activity while they wait for their ride to arrive, then request to move the pickup location to a different address by saying 'Hey Siri, change my ride pickup to a new address," Apple explains, as noted by 9to5Mac. It is worth mentioning that Apple had previously released a more limited set of these features to third-party developers.
Apple is also extending Siri AI’s enhanced capabilities to its native applications. These included Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts, and Weather. "Users can do things like find a coffee shop they visited last week or archive files that haven't been opened in over a year," according to Apple.
The company emphasizes that users can simply ask Siri AI what specific actions it can perform within any given application.
