During a recent interview with Wired’s Steven Levy, Apple CEO John Ternus defended the company’s current standing in the artificial intelligence sector.
For the last two years, Apple has often been criticized for falling behind in AI, particularly due to delays in releasing an upgraded Siri version that finally debuted this summer. Although Ternus, a veteran executive who took office in September, admitted that "everyone has an opinion," he firmly stated, "I really like where we’re at."
Ternus noted that Apple is "absolutely going to leverage AI" in future devices, but emphasized that "we don't want to ship AI for AI’s sake." He explained that when done correctly, users will not distinguish between AI-driven features and traditional software; the priority is creating "something that they really love."
When asked if AI agents could eventually make applications obsolete, Ternus responded, "That could make life really easy, I suppose, but the creation of products is a deeply human and personal thing, something that we love to do."
