Anthropic's Super Bowl advertising campaign, characterized by its darkly comedic portrayal of individuals receiving unhelpful or misleading advice from chatbots – such as being directed to "cougar" dating sites or height-enhancing insoles – has proven highly effective. Following the campaign, Anthropic's AI chatbot, Claude, has experienced a significant surge, ascending from No. 41 on the U.S. App Store charts to secure a position within the top 10. By Friday, Claude reached No. 7, marking its highest-ever ranking and indicating a strong user reception to its "no ads" proposition.

Fresh data from market intelligence firm Appfigures reveals a substantial increase in Claude's U.S. downloads across both iOS and Android platforms. From Sunday to Tuesday, the most recent period for which data is available, total downloads reached an estimated 148,000. This represents a robust 32% increase compared to the preceding three-day span, Thursday through Saturday, which saw approximately 112,000 downloads.

During the Sunday through Tuesday period, Claude's daily average downloads stood at 49,200. This marks a 32% rise from its typical Sunday through Tuesday daily average of 37,400 downloads.

These figures strongly suggest that Anthropic's Super Bowl commercials, coupled with the recent launch of its new Opus 4.6 model, effectively amplified awareness for the Claude app. This strategy also highlighted Claude's key competitive advantage over ChatGPT, especially as ChatGPT began displaying ads to its free users this week – a development Anthropic's commercials had notably foreshadowed.

Consequently, the Claude app is now attracting significantly more attention than it did upon its initial mobile release.

When this consumer-oriented AI application first launched on iOS in May 2024, its reception was notably subdued. ChatGPT had already established a strong market presence on mobile devices, accumulating nearly half a million installs within its first five days. In stark contrast, Claude garnered only 157,000 total global downloads in its inaugural week and did not surpass the No. 55 rank on the U.S. App Store.

Beyond the U.S. market, Claude also registered global gains over the past week. Total worldwide downloads across both the App Store and Google Play increased by 15% from Sunday to Tuesday, compared to the previous Thursday through Saturday period. However, Appfigures observed that these global gains constituted less than half of the growth experienced within the U.S.
