The AI landscape is currently saturated with personal productivity assistants launching on a weekly basis. Anthropic is now entering this competitive arena with a new application called Claude Duet, aiming to capture user attention against rivals including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.
The company describes this new agent as a solution designed for professionals and small businesses to assist with automating and managing complex tasks. Anthropic draws a distinct line between Duet and personal agents like Instinct, clarifying that the tool is not optimized for handling errands, booking tickets, or performing real-time browser actions.
Conversely, Duet is engineered to create daily briefings, generate dashboards, and suggest actions based on user data. Like other autonomous agents, Duet can complete tasks in the background using its own virtual machine while the user attends to other matters, only surfacing when specific approval is required.
This release comes as the market trend shifts from standard AI assistants to agents capable of executing tasks on a user's behalf. Many of Anthropic’s competitors are pivoting toward business use cases. While Meta’s Muse serves as a personal assistant, the company also released a business-oriented version featuring app integrations. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots carries a business slant with its deep integration into professional tools.
Anthropic asserts that Duet proactively delivers recommendations as it monitors ongoing workflows. Built upon the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet connects to over 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace. It is also capable of executing online purchases on behalf of users using Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay.
The company emphasizes that sensitive financial steps, such as payments, require user authorization. However, the agent is restricted from trading securities or moving funds between accounts.
Anthropic has also introduced a new classifier to review every message, ensuring sensitive information does not leak out. They noted that, by default, the agent will decline requests asking for credit card numbers or government identification.
Claude Duet is accessible as a mobile application on iOS and Android, and through the web at Claude.ai for Pro and Max customers in a research preview. Interested users must join a waitlist to test the service.
