Anthropic's Claude Cowork AI platform is set to undergo a significant expansion, becoming available on mobile and web for the first time starting this Tuesday. This pivotal update ensures that Cowork sessions will now run seamlessly in the cloud, allowing tasks to continue processing in the background even when your laptop is closed, thereby enhancing user flexibility and productivity.
The expanded access will first be rolled out to Max subscribers, with availability for Claude users on other plans anticipated "in the coming weeks." This phased approach aims to progressively extend the powerful AI assistant's reach to a wider audience across various devices.
Previously, Claude Cowork was exclusively accessible through its dedicated desktop application for macOS and Windows. With this update, users on iOS and Android devices will now gain access to the platform. However, Anthropic clarifies that the "full experience" of Cowork, including advanced features like local file access, will remain primarily available via the desktop application.
A key enhancement is the default cloud operation for Cowork sessions, which facilitates continuity across different devices and enables tasks to run in the background even when a device is offline. For desktop app users, the option to switch between cloud and local processing remains available. Furthermore, scheduled tasks will now execute even when none of your devices are online, and Claude will proactively send notifications to your phone for any items requiring review or approval, streamlining workflow management.
Coinciding with the mobile and web launch, Anthropic is also extending its doubled Cowork usage limits, providing users with enhanced capacity through August 5th. This extension offers additional value as the platform expands its accessibility and capabilities.
