Anthropic has introduced OSS Scanner, a new service designed to assist open-source projects in identifying security vulnerabilities. This offering provides vulnerability reports generated by Anthropic's "strongest models," including Mythos.

The company asserts that open-source projects can opt-in for "thorough, periodic security scans by our strongest models at no cost." This aims to alert projects to potential issues sooner, though the trade-off is the lack of human review for these reports.

Because the outputs of this opt-in scanner are fully model-generated, they are not subject to human review or triage. This enables faster and more frequent scanning, though it allows for the possibility of incorrect or invalid reports. These are generated by Anthropic's strongest models, including Claude Mythos, to provide the largest defensive advantage to open-source projects.

OSS Scanner is not the first AI tool for bug hunting; recent months have seen AI uncover major flaws, such as the "Copy Fail" bug affecting nearly every Linux distro. Conversely, some projects struggle with the flood of AI-generated reports, an issue acknowledged even by Linus Torvalds and Google.
