Amazon’s personal AI wearable company, Bee, has revealed its first new products since its acquisition by the retail giant. On Thursday, the company introduced the Bee Frontier, an upgraded version of its wrist-worn or clothing-pin device, alongside the Bee Eclipse, a credit-card-sized gadget that magnetically attaches to smartphones.
The latter places Bee in direct competition with rivals like the Plaud Note or Pocket AI, but at a more accessible price point. The Bee Frontier is priced at $74.99, compared to $159 for the Plaud Note and $189 for the Note Pro, or $129 for the Pocket AI device.
Buyers can choose between Onyx, Lavender, and Sage for the Bee Frontier, while the $99.99 Bee Eclipse will be available in Silver, Midnight, Honey, and Blush.
Similar to its predecessor, the goal of these new devices is to utilize artificial intelligence for transcribing conversations, helping users retain important information and transforming those details into actionable to-dos, summaries, and insights.
For example, if a user discusses plans with friends, the Bee device will remember the agreed-upon date and time to automatically create a calendar invite. Users can also utilize the device for lecture notes or to document care plans discussed with doctors.
All Bee devices provide free access to conversation summaries and offer a 14-day memory retention period. For $11.99 per month, Bee Pro subscribers receive unlimited summaries and integrations with Amazon.com, Alexa+, and third-party apps. Pro users also benefit from suggested to-dos, daily memories, a personal chat assistant, and conversation templates.
To ensure privacy, Bee devices employ a private computing security architecture that does not store raw audio. Instead, audio is processed in real-time and deleted immediately. Transcripts are encrypted using keys generated and controlled by the device, ensuring that neither Amazon employees nor anyone else can access these files without explicit user permission.
Additionally, users can connect the Bee to Alexa, allowing the voice assistant to identify speakers through Voice ID to trigger recordings. Amazon notes that this feature is optional and allows for the deletion of transcripts and summaries at any time.
Through connections to Amazon.com and Alexa, Bee users can make purchases or request their insights, summaries, or to-dos hands-free.
Bee also integrates with existing productivity tools such as Gmail, Google Calendar, and Microsoft Outlook for drafting emails and setting meetings. Furthermore, users can upload photos or link the device to Apple’s HealthKit to incorporate wellness data into their insights.
Both the Bee Frontier and Bee Eclipse feature a single button for power control and an indicator light to show when summarizing. The Frontier boasts IP67 water resistance, a seven-day battery life, USB-C charging, and dual microphones with advanced noise filtering.
All Bee devices come with a redesigned mobile app and a new desktop companion app. The Bee Frontier is available for purchase on Amazon immediately, with the Bee Eclipse following shortly.
