On Thursday, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced plans for a revolutionary new version of Alexa that could take action on your behalf, not just answer questions, making your smart home experience even easier!
Andy Jassy:
“The next generation of these assistants and generative AI applications will be better at not just answering questions but also taking actions on users’ behalf.”
To make this happen, Amazon is upgrading Alexa’s technology with new models. The company is switching from its own systems to those made by Anthropic, an important partner, after running into some technical issues.
The redesigned assistant, known as “Remarkable Alexa,” will likely follow a subscription model costing $5 to $10 per month, along with a basic free option. Originally set to launch in October, reports now suggest a delay until 2025.
Despite being integrated into over 500 million devices globally, Alexa has not made a substantial impact on Amazon’s financial performance, with the company having incurred tens of billions in losses within its devices division since 2017.
As Amazon moves forward with these enhancements, the tech giant aims to redefine the virtual assistant landscape, improving user experiences and possibly shifting Alexa from a cost center to a more profitable venture. The upcoming improvements are anticipated to set a new standard in AI-driven voice technology.
