The hospitality giant is preparing to launch an innovative "AI-native" trip-planning experience scheduled for release in the coming year.
According to Airbnb’s Q3 2026 earnings shareholder letter released today, the company intends to debut an AI agent in the first half of 2027 designed to assist users with planning and booking their travels.
In the letter, Airbnb stated, "Today’s AI agents are good at simple, routine tasks, like making a restaurant reservation or scheduling an appointment." The company noted that planning a trip on Airbnb is distinct, citing its established role in matching hosts with guests and its experience with reservations as key advantages, alongside a new interface built specifically for travel.
Explaining the functionality of the new interface, Airbnb emphasized that a traditional chatbot is not the optimal method for trip planning. Instead, they are developing a custom-designed, AI-native experience that structures the interface around the user's query. By utilizing a library of hundreds of travel-specific elements—such as maps, photos, comparisons, calendars, and itineraries—the agent composes these in real time to match user needs. This tool will assist guests in exploring options, making decisions alongside their companions, and executing actions directly within the Airbnb platform.
Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky previously indicated a 2027 launch date, highlighting to the Skift Global Forum that the interface would be "much richer than a chatbot."
The shareholder letter further asserted that artificial intelligence is "the best thing to ever happen to Airbnb," emphasizing the technology's profound impact on product development and operations.
