AI to Handle Drive-Thru Orders at 500 Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, KFC Locations
AI will soon take orders at 500 Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC locations, enhancing drive-thru efficiency and customer experience.

Originally reported byusatoday
Starting in April and continuing through June, AI will begin handling drive-thru orders at 500 Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and KFC locations. This major initiative, a result of Yum! Brands’ partnership with Nvidia, introduces advanced voice-ordering technology capable of managing complex menu requests and adapting to varied customer speech patterns. According to a press release, this AI rollout will also incorporate language models, emotional comprehension, and personalized responses to improve the customer experience.
The technology, which has already been successfully tested at select locations, aims to boost drive-thru efficiency, assist with labor management, and provide real-time analytics and alerts to staff. The new AI system is designed to assist employees by managing complex tasks and providing support across restaurants.
This move follows similar efforts by other fast-food chains, including Wendy’s and McDonald's, who have tested AI ordering systems in their drive-thrus. Wendy’s plans to expand its AI voice ordering technology to 600 locations after a successful pilot program, while McDonald's ended a similar program last year due to order accuracy issues.
Despite the growing interest in AI-powered fast food services, some customers have voiced frustrations with the technology, citing problems with order accuracy and the potential loss of human interaction in the ordering process. Still, Yum! Brands remains optimistic that AI will improve overall efficiency and customer satisfaction at their restaurants.
